Barbecue for a large group - when do you start grilling?
Q. I have a barbecue that starts at 1 pm. There will be 60 or so people to feed. The bulk will arrive between 1:30 and 2:30 pm. When should I start grilling the burgers, franks, etc.? Should I grill as people arrive? Should I pre-cook any of the burgers?
Asked by Patricia H - Thu Jun 12 13:15:26 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Don't start until your guests start arriving. They can mingle and help you out and then you will have fresh food.

What to wear to a barbecue engagement party?
Q. I'm confused.. I'm invited to an engagement party but it's a barbecue. It's a prominent family's home and I'm kinda torn on how to dress for this because you are supposed to dress nice for an engagement party. But then again it is a barbecue.

What would a vegetarian like to eat at a barbecue?
Q. My wife and I are moving to a new town. We have made some friends there and have gone out to eat with them a few times. A. For that many people you might have more fun doing something like pulled pork, which you can do in advance in your oven, put it in disposable aluminum pans and then reheat on the grill at your picnic destination. If you have your heart set on grilling on an outdoor grill/pit, consider doing things like hot dogs and varieties of sausages that are actually pre-cooked (ask the guy behind the meat counter for help with this.) Undercooked burgers and chicken breasts on a public grill could be risky if you're not familiar with grilling. And you'll be one very busy guy cooking for 30 people. When back on your home turf, working with your own grill, you may find the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com helpful. Just enter the items you want to… [cont.]

Had a barbecue last night & have TONS of cooked food left over. How should I store it?
Q. We have lots of potato salad, burger patties, barbecue chicken, and hot dogs. There's no way we're going to finish all this off. Will it reheat well if we freeze it? How do you recommend storing these items?
Asked by my_belovd - Sun May 11 15:17:11 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, you can freeze the hot dogs--they are cooked. Later you can put them in baked beans or bean soup. The burger patties can be crumbled and cooked now and can be put in zip bags, frozen and used later for chili, sloppy joes or spaghetti sauce. Take the bar b que chicken off of the bone, put it in zip bags with some bbq sauce so that you can have bbq on a bun at a later date. Eat the potato salad and get rid of what is left.

Recently, I've been buying Sweet Baby Rays w/honey. I can drink that stuff...really! In my opinion, the sweeter BBQ sauce is good for chopped beef. You can always make two different flavor batches if your indecisive. Good Luck!

A. I created a recipe of my own for bbq chicken. It makes the meat so tender and juicy. It is used as a marinate, but it might work for your sandwich as well. Equal parts of worchestershire for chicken, balsamic vinegar and any type of bbq sauce. If you like onions, put about 1 to 2 T of onion powder into the mix as well. Good luck!

What to do with teens at a barbecue?
Q. My 11th grade daughter is having a barbecue party at our house and we're having trouble coming up with food & activity ideas. This is going to be an evening party. I'm not sure what kinds of activities and/or games are usually at barbecues. Any suggestions would be super helpful. Thank you in advance!
